He reached his first final in New Zealand with compatriot Mark Verryth, as well as another semifinal in New Zealand and a quarterfinal in Italy. He also won singles matches at Futures level in Australia, New Zealand and Italy. In 2008, Thomas concluded his junior career on a high note and began his transition to the senior ranks, putting a toe in the water at several Futures events during the year. High points were reaching the quarterfinal of the boys’ singles at Wimbledon and the third round at the Australian Open. Meanwhile, he reached the quarterfinal of the F3 in Perth and won through qualifying to reach the main draw of the F1 in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, in June. A tennis player since the age of six, Andrew cites his parents Tom and Coral as having the strongest influence on his career. His favourite surface is grass and his dream is to capture the first of many Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open. His tennis hero is Pete Sampras and when he’s not playing tennis, Andrew enjoys spending time with family and friends and listening to R’n’B music. He has a brother, Chris.
