For talented West Australian Brydan Klein, it was the culmination of a boyhood dream when he was named in the Optus Australian Davis Cup team for the first time earlier this month.

That dream's realisation was informally recognised last night when Optus Australian Davis Cup captain John Fitzgerald officially presented Klein with the coveted gold jacket at a special team dinner in Bangkok.

Klein along with Lleyton Hewitt, Chris Guccione and Carsten Ball make up the team that will play against Thailand in their Asia–Oceania Group One tie of Davis Cup by BNP Paribas in the Bangkok suburb of Nonthaburi starting on Friday.

The 19 year old will be the 99th Australian to represent his country in Davis Cup and, in accordance with tradition, has the number specially embroidered on the newest addition to his sporting wardrobe.

"I am proud to be 99 ... I will wear my jacket very proudly and hopefully be in the team for a long time," Klein said today.

"I've been orange boy a few times and to finally get in the team is a dream come true. When I was young I actually had a poster on the wall of the winning Davis Cup team."

Klein, a member of the Australian Institute of Sport Pro Tour Program, arrived in Thailand on the weekend following the most successful summer in his brief senior tennis career – a summer in which he won a round at the Australian Open, back-to-back titles in Burnie and Mildura, and he reeled off 13 straight victories in the process.

"I put in lots of hard work before the Aussie summer with [his coach] Milo [Bradley] and [AIS physiotherapist and trainer] Ian Prangley working on my footwork, which I think is a big improvement and on consistency, of backing up match after match," the West Australian teenager explained.

The Australians have been training in the heat and humidity on the hard courts at the National Tennis Development Centre and will name their singles players prior to Thursday's official draw.

While named in the four-man team, Klein is still no certainty to take the court in either singles or doubles against Thailand.

"I am not sure at the moment, everyone is in good form ...we'll see how everyone goes," he said.

The winner of this tie will advance to the next round of Asia–Oceania Group One and meet the winner of Chinese Taipei versus India in May for a berth in the World Group Play-offs in September.
