Australian Marija Mirkovic has made it through to the third round of qualifying for Australian Open 2009 at Melbourne Park.

Mirkovic defeated Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru in straight sets, 6-3 6-4. Mirkovic will now play Japan’s Kimiko Date Krumm for a place in the main draw.

However, the news wasn’t as good for Australians Matt Ebden and John Millman who were knocked out in the second round of qualifying today. 

Ebden fell in three sets to No.15 seed Michael Berrer of Germany, 6-4 3-6 6-1. Millman was ousted in straight sets, 6-3 6-4, by Slovenia’s Grega Zemlja.

In the men’s draw, Melburnian Peter Luczak is the only remaining Australian. He will meet American Wayne Odesnik for a spot in the main draw.
